Cross Fell Inlier

We will visit the igneous exposures in Knock Pike quarry which is a LGS and has received recent attention from Natural Landscapes. The opportunity to visualise the overall structural relationships of the inlier with the surrounding rock landscapes will also be undertaken here.
At Knock Swindale beck we will examine the relationships between a lamprophyre dyke and nearby sediments (also an LGS).
The party will then drive on to Dufton and Keisley for the afternoon. Permission has been granted to view the remarkable quarry at Keisley (SSSI) and if possible we will also visit the fossiliferous exposures above the quarry on open-access land.
Returning to Dufton, we end with an examination of the St Bees Sandstone in Dufton Ghyll.
