Ingleton Waterfall Geology Trail

The plan is to follow the Waterfalls Walk and to examine the abundant geology on the route which includes a section across the margins of the Craven basin onto the Askrigg Block.
There are good exposures on the unconformity at the base of the Carboniferous and the pre-Carboniferous rocks where an older unit, the Ingleton Group within the Craven Inlier provides a basement history relating to the assembly of the Avalonian Superterrane.

Logistics: Meet at the Broadwood entrance to the Waterfall Walk LA6 3ET [SD 6932 7342] at 10 am.

Grade G/M The walk is around 4.5 miles (8km) on the Ingleton Waterfall Trail and is expected to take 4-5 hours. It is mainly on good paths but with a lot of steps. Depending on river levels the river bed may be accessed at several points around the trail which will involve some simple scrambling and clambering on rocks and we may enter several of the quarries. Walking boots or strong shoes are advised.
