50 Years of exploring the geology of Westmorland
In 2023, we celebrated our 50th anniversary. In all that time the society has attracted those with an interest in the geology and its origins and furthered that interest through field trips, lectures and tutorials where members share and further their knowledge. WGS is an associate of the Geologists Association.
Tutorials
During the winter months, we arrange and run tutorials on aspects of the techniques employed in geological research and investigations

Our winter lecture programme provides a platform for visiting lecturers to present their research and field questions from the audience

We arrange and run a number of local field trips during the summer months visiting sites of particular interest in the Lake District and North Penines regions
